40 000 sounds to choose from - on the internet and directly in your music program

PowerFX.com is an e-commerce site for sounds. Musicians, film makers and others who need instruments or sound effects can easily buy and download any of the 40 000 royalty-free sounds in PowerFX's enormous database. Searching and purchasing of sounds can also be done directly in all popular music applications by using the plug-in SoundShuttle, available for download on the PowerFX web site.

Ever since the start in 1995, PowerFX has been one of the world's best producers of music samples, well-known in the business for their high quality products and innovative spirit. Until the year 2000 their business was completely based on selling their samples on CDs through their own mail-order service and via resellers world-wide.

When PowerFX established themselves on the internet the web site was a sales channel for the existing CD-based products, but soon it was realized that there was an enormous opportunity in selling the sounds individually over the internet and cut out both CD production costs and shipping costs. In 2002 PowerFX commissioned Iteam to completely rebuild the web site.

The new PowerFX.com, using Iteam t-rex as the platform for both content management, indexing and storage of the sound files, was launched later in 2002. Large focus was put on making the purchasing process as simple as possible. A new visitor can for instance search for sounds and add them to the shopping cart without registering - that isn't done until the purchase is finalized.

The next step was enable purchases from inside the customes music application, the place the need usually arises for instrument sounds and loops. 2003 a VST-compliant plug-in was developed, that works in all leading music applications. This plug-in is directly connected to PowerFX sound databasen using a web service. When a musician searches for and buys a sound using the plug-in, the sound is automatically transfered to the music application and added its sound library. This innovative solution was nominated for Microsoft's .NET Award in the category "Best packaged application", and for the IDG magazine IT.Branschen's Sirius Award in 2004.

During 2004 Iteam was also commissioned to implement a redesign of the user interface of PowerFX.com along with new functions, among them the possibility for external producers to market and sell their samples on the site.
